14 June 2021 - Lightning Ridge

Day 5. 14 Jun 2021

Lightning Ridge

After a slow start, I set up the bike and set off to explore some of the sites and quirkiness of Lightning Ridge, while Noeleene did some washing and cleaning. When I returned we went for a stroll around town and visited John Murray's gallery. What an incredible display by a very talented artist who captures the essence of the Australian outback and humour. finished the day with dip in the Artesian Bore Baths. Natural pressure sends the water to the surface through a bore from the Great Artesian Basin and is approximately two million years old! At 40 degrees, its very soothing.

A short bike ride along the Red Car Door Tour - This quirky building is called the Ridge Castle

Typical landscape of the area

Another weird construction

Plenty of rusting cars and machinery throughout the opal minefields

The Bottle House Mining Museum

More rusting cars

....and trucks

The Flying Campervan 'Emus on the Plane' by artist John Murray.

Cooper's Cottage, built in 1916, is one of the oldest buildings in Lightning Ridge

John Murray's gallery - some amazing work inside (and outside)

Our setup at the Lightning Ridge Holiday Park

More awesome street art

Artwork on the walls of the gallery

More amazing art work

A nice relaxing dip in the Artesian Bore Baths (40Deg)

Lovely sunset ends a lovely day
