10 Jun 2021 - Canberra to Canowindra

Day 1. 10 Jun 2021

Canberra to Canowindra 212 km

The day has finally come - we head off on our long awaited trip to QLD. But the weather has once again turned wet and bitterly cold. We finally got away at 1000 - our first stop was at Boorowa for coffee. The weather couldn't have been colder - midday was 7 Deg (apparent temperature was 3 Deg).

We only had a short 212 km drive today arriving at our first destination Canowindra Caravan Park, a small and quiet park with easy access, and a large drive through site with a concrete slab. We aim to keep our trips short, and make the most of the country towns. Unfortunately the bitter cold wasn't conducive to venturing outside for any sightseeing or photography. The horrible overnight temperature (-2 Deg) did prove to be a great test for our Diesel heating which ran all night.  A big tick.

After setting up, we had an issue with our three-way fridge, in that it wouldn't default to AC when connected to power. It kept wanting to connect to Gas. At 9PM, after endless attempts to resolve the issue,  I sent a text message to Jason Goudie at Simply Caravans asking for advice, and within minutes he called back and talked me through fixing an issue. It turned out to be a setting that I had unknowingly changed.  He didn't mind that I contacted him so late - what brilliant service and support, and it saved us a whole lot of worry the next day.

Despite increasing winds, and ordinary weather, the van towed well - A great 1st day settler.

Boorowa - Coffee stop, and relief we are finally on the way.

Boorowa Pub. Too cold and too early for a beer

Arrived at our first short destination at Canowindra - blistering cold and wet conditions outside - too uncomfortable to venture out.

The Canowindra Caravan Park is small, but a lovely little park

Getting dirty.
